What is the duty impact, and how is it worked out?

The duty impact is the extra duty, or the saving, a change brings to your lanes in a year. It is worked out from your last 12 months of imports: what would you have paid bringing in the same goods at the new rate?

  1. The yearly duty impact tile on Today adds up the changes of the last twelve months.
  2. In the list of changes, the yearly duty column shows each change's own impact. Red is an extra cost, green a saving; “—” means no money is at stake.
  3. When you open a change, the “Your lanes” table shows the calculation lane by lane: imports, current duty, new duty and the yearly difference. Click a rate to see how it is made up.
  4. On Lanes, the link “Duty on this lane over time” shows how the duty from that origin has changed over the years.

The duty impact is an estimate: it assumes you import last year's quantity again. If you export, the same column shows the duty your buyers pay. You don't pay it, but it affects where your price stands against your competitors.
